Day 2 / Sivas - Gürpınar Lake - Darende - Malatya
In the morning, we arrive in Sivas, the epic city of Anatolia written in stone. After having our breakfast, we listen to the stories of the Kale Mosque, built in 1580 by Ali Bey, the Governor of Sivas and vizier of Murad III, the Buruciye Madrasah, built in 1271–72 by Muzaffer Burcuverdi, and the Çifte Minareli Madrasah, built in the same period by the Ilkhanid vizier Sahip Şemseddin Mehmed Cüveyri, from our guide in the city square. After a tea break, we photograph the magnificent portal of the Şifaiye Madrasah and Hospital, built by Izzettin Keykavus I, then visit the Atatürk Congress Building, where the first steps of the Republic were taken, and relive the excitement of the past in this historic place. After the free time we will give, we set off again for Gökpınar Lake. After hearing from our guide about Gökpınar Lake, one of Turkey’s rare beauties, with its crystal-clear waters, color-changing appearance depending on the angle of the sun, and rich flora and fauna, we leave you alone with this natural wonder. After taking photos of this postcard-worthy view, we head toward Somuncu Baba Tomb in Darende, though we won’t want to leave Gökpınar Lake. First, we visit the Somuncu Baba Tomb, then the Tohma Canyon and Tohma Stream, the Kudret Pools, the Fish Pool, and the Fish Wells. We also have the opportunity to spend time shopping for souvenirs at Hulusi Efendi Bazaar. We take a short canyon walk in the Somuncu Baba area and give free time before settling into our hotel in Malatya. Accommodation and Dinner at ANEMON MALATYA HOTEL
3 DAYS / MALATYA ARAPGİR - DİVRİĞİ ULU MOSQUE
After breakfast at our hotel, we begin our city tour of MALATYA. Our first stop is a short break for apricot shopping at the Şire Bazaar. At the end of our break, we arrive in Old Malatya (Battalgazi). In Battalgazi, after seeing the Silahtar Mustafa Paşa Caravanserai and the Roman Walls, we arrive in Onar Village, home to one of the oldest Cem houses in our country. We will visit the 800-year-old Hasan Onar Tomb and the historic Cem house. Our guests who wish may taste the homemade products produced in the village. After this delightful stop on our program, we head to Arapgir amid mesmerizing natural scenery. In the historic district of Arapgir, which stands out with its historic texture, we walk through the streets dating back to the Ottoman period and take a tea break with Reyhani Tea at Millet Han, one of Arapgir’s most important landmarks. Then, after visiting the Mirliva Ahmet Bey Mosque and taking a short shopping break, an exceptional stop where stone, faith, and the art of wisdom intertwine, Divriği Grand Mosque and Darüşşifa awaits you: This monumental structure, built in the 13th century, is a magnificent work in which stone has been patiently carved stitch by stitch, with a different prayer on every column and the human perspective on the universe hidden in every motif. As we explore it with the narration of our guide, we feel as if the stone itself is breathing. After the break we will take in Arasta in Divriği, we begin our journey back.
