After our guide’s explanations, we set off toward Göbeklitepe, the world’s oldest temple complex. Here, we will take a walk among the impressive structures formed by T-shaped pillars. Göbeklitepe is known not as a settlement, but as a ritual center, and was built by hunter-gatherer groups in the transition to agriculture and animal husbandry. As we step into the depths of history in this fascinating area, we will discover the depths of the region’s belief system through our guide’s explanations. After our Göbeklitepe visit, we begin our Mardin tour, listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, famous for its architectural structures formed by Syrian, Chaldean, Yazidi, Arab, Kurdish, and Turkish cultures, its narrow streets, and its abbaras, and having hosted many civilizations and states for 4,000 years, starting with the discovery of the Deyrulzafaran Monastery, which served as the residence of Syriac Orthodox patriarchs for 640 years. After seeing the Sun Temple, cemetery, church, and terrace sections of this monastery, which stands out with its domes, arched columns, woodwork, and stone carvings, we then visit the Kasimiye Madrasa, with a history of 700 years and an exquisite architectural design adorned in detail, built on a hill overlooking the Mesopotamian Plain.
