In the morning, after having (Extra) breakfast at the Sungurlu Mountain Facilities, we receive information from our guide about the Hatti–Hittite geography, which hosted one of the earliest examples of state formation in Anatolian history, and the political and cultural development of Central Anatolia, and begin our tour with a visit to the Ancient City of Hattusa, the capital of the Hittite Empire. In the ancient city, which is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, we visit the fortification systems, the Lion Gate, the King’s Gate, the Sphinx Gate and the temple areas, and then proceed to the Yazılıkaya Open-Air Temple, one of the most important sacred sites of the Hittite belief system. We learn about the Hittite pantheon, their understanding of cosmology and religious rituals through the reliefs of gods, goddesses and kings carved into the rock walls, and are told that it is one of the rare open-air temples reflecting both the state religion and royal ideology of the Hittites, before proceeding to Alacahöyük. After visiting the Alacahöyük Museum and excavation areas accompanied by our guide, we depart for Çorum city center. Following lunch, our first stop is the Çorum Archaeology and Ethnography Museum. During our museum visit, cuneiform tablets, statue fragments, seals and daily life objects from the Hatti–Hittite period are examined. Comprehensive information is provided about the Hittite legal system, written documents and the early state tradition in Anatolia. After the museum visit, we continue our panoramic tour of Çorum city center. As part of this tour, the Çorum Clock Tower, one of the city’s landmarks from the Ottoman period, and Çorum Castle, reflecting the city’s history of defense, are viewed from the outside. After our city tour, free time is given to shop for roasted chickpeas, identified with Çorum. Following the shopping opportunity, we complete our Çorum tour, depart for Amasya and check in to our hotel. Following breakfast at our hotel, our first stop in Amasya is the II. Beyazıt Complex. With its mosque, madrasa and soup kitchen sections, the complex is among the finest examples of classical Ottoman architecture in Amasya. We continue our program with a visit to the Amasya Archaeology and Mummies Museum. After learning about the archaeological artifacts and mummies from the Ilkhanid Period displayed in the museum, we continue to Princes' Park, located along the Yeşilırmak River. After seeing the statues of the Ottoman princes in the park, we take a short stroll along the Yeşilırmak, enjoy panoramic views of the historic Amasya Houses and Mount Harşena, and the Amasya Royal Tombs carved into its steep rocks. After learning about Amasya’s historical identity, extending from antiquity to the present day, we visit the Sabuncuoğlu Şerefeddin Medical and History Museum, dedicated to one of the most important figures in the history of Anatolian medicine. After learning about the work and contributions to medical history of the 15th-century physician and surgeon Sabuncuoğlu, we meet our vehicle and set out to see the water channels Ferhat carved through the mountains for Şirin in the legendary tale of the famous lovers Ferhat and Şirin. At the point where the water channels can be seen, we visit the Lovers' Museum opened by the Amasya Municipality. Following our visit here, we begin our journey towards Tokat. After having our lunch in Tokat, consisting of the Famous Tokat Kebab, we begin our city tour. First, we start our sightseeing with the Tokat Archaeology Museum . Through artifacts from the Hittite, Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods in the museum collection, we learn about the uninterrupted settlement history of Tokat and its surroundings since ancient times. After the Archaeology Museum, we enjoy panoramic views of the Tokat Houses and historic streets, which reflect Tokat’s civil architecture. Through the timber-frame construction technique, projecting façades and narrow street layout, Tokat’s traditional urban identity is assessed through our guide’s commentary. Following our panoramic city tour, we visit Tokat Taşhan, one of the finest examples of Ottoman commercial buildings. In the 17th-century inn, we learn about Tokat’s location along the historic Silk Road, its trading culture and inn architecture. In the final part of our program, we proceed to Yazmacılar Bazaar. At the bazaar, where Tokat’s traditional hand-block printing craft is introduced, we learn about printing techniques using wooden blocks, the meanings of the motifs and the place of this craft within the cultural heritage. After shopping and free time, we complete our tour program and begin our return journey. We drop off our valued guests in Samsun, Ordu and Giresun, the points where we picked you up, and bid you farewell until we meet again on another PİKOLA TUR Tour.
